
What's New?John Vander Lippe replaces Hardgrave as 2004-05 presiding faculty officerJohn Vander Lippe (History) will serve as the presiding officer of the faculty for the 2004-05 academic year.
Vander Lippe has been an assistant professor in the Department of History at New Paltz since 1995. Previously, he was a visiting scholar in the International Studies Program at Vassar College and a teaching assistant in the Department of History at the University of Texas. His areas of teaching and research interest include the modern Middle East and North Africa; Ottoman Empire and Turkey; Islamic civilization; Russian and Soviet history; history of Central and South Asia; history of science; modern world history; and Western civilization. He received both his M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of Texas. Additionally, Vander Lippe was a Fulbright scholar at Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Ankara University, Ankara, Turkey, in 1984-85. Most recently, he received a Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation research grant. Vander Lippe replaces Barbara Hardgrave (Music), who served as the presiding officer from the fall of 2002 to the spring of 2004. Provost names new associate provost
The Office of the Provost has announced that Dr. Laurel M. Garrick Duhaney has accepted the position of associate provost. As associate provost, Garrick Duhaney, who will serve on an interim basis with a search planned for the 2005-06 academic year, will be responsible for assessment activities and the oversight of general education. In addition, she will be responsible for the Graduate School. Garrick Duhaney is an associate professor of special education in the Department of Educational Studies. She served as coordinator of special education for three years and has chaired the Department of Educational Studies during the summers. Prior to joining the New Paltz faculty in the fall of 1996, Garrick-Duhaney earned her master's degree and doctorate from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English language and English literature from the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica. She is married to Dr. Devon C. Duhaney, a professor in the Department of Secondary Education. Human Resources welcomes new leadership on August 2
Dian Bustillo, assistant vice president of Human Resources, begins her duties on campus Aug. 2. She comes to New Paltz with a wealth of higher education human resource experience, having most recently served as director of human resources at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, a position she held since 1995. Previously, Bustillo was deputy director of human resources at New York University, School of Education; and deputy director of personnel at Lehman College, Bronx. With Bustillo’s appointment, it was recently announced that Marda Reid will be taking over as director of human resources and affirmative action officer.
Reid has been a member of the campus community for many years. She received her undergraduate degree at New Paltz in 1986 and her M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 1989. While in her graduate program at New Paltz, she served as a teaching assistant and continued on as an adjunct lecturer for the psychology department. In 1990, she was hired full time as the assistant to the vice president for administration, serving for both James Grant and Johanna D'Aleo. In 2000, she became the executive assistant to Provost David Lavallee. |
