What's New?Evelyn Walker memorial set for May 14New Paltz will hold a memorial service for Dr. Evelyn Acomb Walker, who recently died at the age of 93. The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 14, in the Shepard Recital Hall, CUB. Professor Walker was born in Donora, Pa., in 1910. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Wellesley College and master's and doctoral degrees from Columbia University. She taught at Rutgers University, the College of William and Mary and Hunter College before joining the faculty at SUNY New Paltz in 1949. Professor Walker taught French and European History in the History Department until her retirement in 1977. She was active in national professional organizations and journals, especially the American Historical Association and the Society for French Historical Studies. She published the Revolutionary Journal of Baron Ludwig von Closen, a French officer posted to Virginia during the American Revolution. She also edited a volume on French society and culture since 1789. Walker was married to the late Herman Walker, an economist in the U.S. State Department and, after his retirement from that position, chairman of the Department of History and Political Economy at SUNY New Paltz. New Brand Marketing Task ForceA new Brand Marketing Task Force has been developed by President Steven Poskanzer to develop a brand marketing strategy and integrated marketing plan to help guide SUNY New Paltz into the future. Members of the task force include: Chair, L. David Eaton (Vice President of Enrollment Management); Theodore Clark (Business faculty member); Sally Cross (Director of Development); Mary Kastner (Director of Publications); Stuart Robinson (Director of Athletics); Eric Gullickson (Public Affairs); Kurt Daw (Dean of Fine and Performing Arts); Rachel Reuben (Public Affairs); and Shelly Wright (Executive Assistant to the President). Some of the goals of the group will be to develop a integrated marketing plan that defines the college's brand, one that the internal stakeholders will support and external audiences will recognize and value; communicate this brand to the target audiences through mixed media, such as special events, direct mail, the Web, feature stories and graphic identity or logo; continue to consistently communicate this brand and message; and continue to strengthen this brand through research. The Task Force will meet this fall to go over research findings that will outline how the college is currently seen in the eyes of various groups within its market segment.
