Student interviews via interactive televisionBy John Grayshaw Institutional Media Services new video conferencing room in Lecture Center 3A is now available for students who have an opportunity to participate in long-distance job interviews.
Dana Morales, a graduate student in ceramics, was the first student to take advantage of this service. She was interviewed for an internship with Kohler Plumbing Company based in Kohler, Wis. "It's very professional when you can tell a company you have access to video conferencing equipment," said Morales. "Companies don't always want to pay for your interview if they have to fly you there, but video conferencing doesn't cost them that much." Kohler paid New Paltz $100 for the first hour of interactive television, plus the cost of a phone call because they didn't have an IP connection, said Emily Trapp, manager of IMS. "Dana took advantage of the technology to showcase her work," said Trapp. "She was able to show them the molds she had been working on that day." Morales said that it is important for students to know about this service. "Without it, I don't think I would have been able to do that interview."
