Kurt J. Matzdorf (professor emeritus and founder of the metals program in the Art Department at New Paltz), designer and creator of the New Paltz mace and chain of office, recently polished the items in preparation for the inauguration events this Friday.

Matzdorf created the mace and chain for Alice Chandler's (president emerita) inauguration in May of 1981.

He is nationally known for his ceremonial work, especially his 16 university maces, 20 presidential chains of office and 10 presidential medallions.
