Steven G. Poskanzer will be officially sworn in
as the seventh president of SUNY New Paltz in
an inauguration ceremony set for April 16.
The month of April marks the end of
the year-long celebration of the 175th
anniversary of higher education at SUNY
New Paltz and the official welcome of
the college's new President, Steven G.
Poskanzer.
In celebrating these two landmark
events, the college has scheduled a full
week of activities, beginning Tuesday,
April 13, with a time capsule dedication
ceremony, and ending on Friday, April
16, with an official inauguration ceremony.
A brief schedule of events for the
week follows.
Tuesday, April 13:
175th Anniversary Closing Ceremony and Time Capsule Dedication begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Library Courtyard.
Lecture: Jeffrey Wollin, the photographer who created “Written in Memory: Portraits of the Holocaust,” on view at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, will discuss his work at 7 p.m. in Lecture Center 102
Wednesday, April 14:
Symposium: “Poised for the Future: SUNY New Paltz and the Hudson Valley” Award winning New Paltz faculty will examine the college's role in political, civic and economic life of the mid-Hudson region. Begins at 7 p.m. in the Honors Center.
Lecture: Lisa Gralnick, metalsmith, will speak about her work creating black acrylic jewelry, wearable reliquary pieces and intricately fabricated gold rings. Begins at 7 p.m. in Lecture Center 102
Thursday, April 15:
Lecture: “Seas, Sand & Mountains: Deep Time in New York, 400 Million Years Ago” with Dr. Charles Ver Straeten, senior scientist at the Center for Stratigraphy and Paleontology at the New York State Museum in Albany. Begins at 4 p.m. in the Coykendall Science Building Auditorium.
Lecture: “Art History & Living Culture: The Role of University Museums.” Kim Rorschach, Dana Feitler Director of the Smart Art Museum, University of Chicago. Begins at 7 p.m. in Lecture Center 102.
Friday, April 16:
Inaugural Ceremony. Begins at 2:30 p.m. in Studley Theatre.
Inaugural Reception. Begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Old Main Quad.
