Awards, Honors, Appointments, and Recognition

Anne R. Roschelle (Sociology) received her certification from the State of New York as a mediator. Roschelle is now certified to mediate small claims cases, business disputes, child custody and visitation cases, and child support cases. Roschelle also received specialized training to mediate cases with a history of domestic violence. As part of her formal training, Roschelle has been a volunteer community mediator at the Mediation Center of Dutchess County for the past year.

Thirty-six student athletes have made the Academic All Athletic Team for the 2003 academic season. This award is given to student-athletes who have a GPA of 3.50 or higher and who have made a significant contribution to his or her team. Presentations & Exhibitions

Rimer Cardillo (Art) is exhibiting at Galeria Latina in Montevideo, Uruguay. Three of his works on paper, drawings and prints, from the 1880s series “Totems,” are on display as part of the January-February group show. Also in Punta del Este, Uruguay, one of his mixed-media works on paper from 1975, “Codice de Elitros Plata” was exhibited and sold at Galeria y Remates’ summer auction.

Publications

Hamid Azari (Economics) has published a research article titled “Inventory Dynamics Time-Lags and Efficiency Measures” in the January 2004 issue of the International Journal of Production Economics.

Alice Wexler (Art Education) has published an article titled “The Art of Necessity: Lives Reclaimed From Trauma” in the January 2004 issue of the National Art Education Association’s Journal of Art Education.

Howard Good (Communication & Media) has two poems, “In Excelsis Gloria” and “Question & Answer,” in the February/March 2004 issue of Plum Ruby Review available online at www.plumrubyreview.com.

Mika Roinila (Geography) published a paper, “From Monessen to Clarksburg and Beyond: The Finnish Ethnicity in Central Appalachia,” in the Journal of Appalachian Studies, Vol.9, No.1, 2003. Special thanks go to Geography graduate Bart Moran (2002) for his cartographic work in the publication.

Alumni in the News

Edward J. Renehan, Jr. (Political Science, ’80) appears in the new WMHT/PBS documentary, “Hudson River Journeys,” which profiles the Hudson River, as shown in the art of Len Tantillo and the music of Pete Seeger. Renehan is the author of several books, among them “John Burroughs: An American Naturalist” (Black Dome Press, 1998). He is currently working on a biography of railroad financier Jay Gould, which will be published in 2005 by Basic Books.
