Anne R. Roschelle's (Sociology) article "Gender, Work, and Family in Cuba: The Challenges of the Special Period," was reprinted in "Through the Eyes of Women: Gender, Social Networks, Family, and Structural Change in Latin America and the Caribbean."

John Sharp (Geography) published "TheTransformation of a Working-Class Neighborhood in Burlington, Vermont" in the Proceedings of the New England-St. Lawrence Valley Geographical Society. He also presented a paper, "Urban Revitalization and Economic Restructuring in the Mid-Hudson Valley," at the annual meeting of the New England-St. Lawrence Valley Division of the Association of American Geographers in Hartford, Conn., on Oct. 11.

George Schnell (Emeritus, Geography) was invited by the Pennsylvania Geographical Society to submit an article in memory of E. Willard Miller, his graduate mentor at Penn State. His tribute was published as "E. Willard Miller and the Pennsylvania Academy of Science" in The Pennsylvania Geographer, volume 41, Spring/Summer 2003, pp. 16-20. Additionally, Schnell reviewed John I. Clarke's "The Human Dichotomy: The Changing Numbers of Males and Females" in the same issue.

Lynn C. Spangler (Associate Dean, Liberal Arts and Sciences; Communication and Media) has written a new book, "Television Women from Lucy to Friends: Fifty Years of Sitcoms and Feminism," published by Praeger.

Tulin Sener (Business) and Hadi Salavitabar (Business) have published, "Region and Industry Effects on the Equity Returns of Emerging Market" in the Journal of Current Research in Global Business.

Hanh Pham (Computer Science), along with Yiming Ye, published a research paper titled "An Agent-based Business Automated System with Self-Adjusting Visibility for Reliability" in Vol. 2, No.3, July-October 2003 issue of the Journal of E-commerce Research and Applications.

Peter Kaufman (Sociology) published an article, "Learning to Not Labor: How Working-Class Individuals Construct Middle- Class Identities," in The Sociological Quarterly, Vol. 44, No. 3.

Andy Evans (History) has published an essay, "Anthropology at War: Racial Studies of POWs during World War I" in the book "Worldly Provincialism: German Anthropology in the Age of Empire" (2003), edited by H. Glenn Penny and Matti Bunzl.

Awards, Honors, Appointments & Recognition

Patrick Saxe (Career and Resource Center) has joined the Office of Student Advising as Senior Academic Advisor. Previously, he was the academic and career-planning counselor, a position shared by Student Advising and the Career Resource Center.

Gerald Sorin (History) has been awarded the 2002-03 National Jewish Book Award in the category of history for his book, "Irving Howe." An award will be presented to Sorin in December at the Center for Jewish History in New York City

Presentations & Exhibitions

Youn Jung Kim (Printmaking, MFA) has a solo show in Kingston at the Artists Gallery on the Rondout, Nov.1-23, titled "Harshness in the Softness: Mixed Media Art" in photo images, wax castings, lithography and silkscreen.

Christopher Robins (Foreign Languages) organized a panel presentation, titled "Walling Us In: Dystopian Visions of Postwar Japanese Literature," at the 2003 annual meeting of the New York Conference on Asian Studies, Oct. 18, at the University of Buffalo.
