
PublicationsRussell Hilliard's (Music Therapy) article, "The Effects of Music Therapy on the Quality and Length of Life of People Diagnosed with Terminal Cancer," has been published in the Journal of Music Therapy, Vol. XL No.2. Robert LaJeunesse (Economics) recently co-authored an article with Professor Raymond Hogler of Colorado State University, titled "Labor Policy and Civic Values: The Curious Contradictions of Right to Work." The article appears in the fall 2003 edition of Labor Law Journal. Eve Waltermaurer (Sociology) was the primary author for the recently published article, "Issues in Estimating the Prevalence of Intimate Partner Violence: Assessing the Impact of Abuse Status on Participation Bias," in the Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Vol. 18 (9): 959-974. Rosa M. Cabrera (Emeritus Professor, Spanish) has published the article "Anclas de Espuma" (Anchors of Foam) in the October issue of Horizontes, the magazine of the Universidad Catolica in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Lourdes Giordani (Anthropology) published "What's in My Closet?: Globalization and Dress." in the book titled "Strategies in Teaching Anthropology," third edition (2004), edited by Patricia C. Rice and David W. McCurdy. Fiona Paton (English) has published an essay entitled "‘A New Style for American Culture': Kerouac's Spontaneous Prose and the Postwar Avant-Garde" in The Bridge Review, an online journal published by The University of Massachussetts at Lowell. Sharing ExpertiseWenshan Jia (Communication and Media, Asian Studies) was solicited by U. S. Consulate in Chengdu P. R. China on Oct. 4 for his expertise on the current status of Chinese communication and media reform and the status of scholarship in Chinese media and communication. He provided this solicited consultation on Oct. 7. Awards, Honors, Appointments & RecognitionDr. Robert V. Piluso (Emeritus Professor, Latin and Romance Languages) was made a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem on Sept. 13. He was invested into the order by Cardinal Egan in Saint Patrick's Cathedral, New York City. Presentations & ExhibitionsHanh Pham (Computer Science) gave two talks and organized and chaired two workshops in June. The workshop, "Distributed & Parallel Computing Techniques for Agents," presented at the International Conference on Information and Knowledge Engineering '03, Las Vegas; and "Agents for Autonomous Information and Knowledge Processing" presented at the 2003 International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Processing Techniques and Applications '03. James Halpern (Psychology) continues to serve on the leadership committee of the Red Cross in Greater New York. Recently, he supervised the mental health response to a terrorist attack in a New York City interagency drill. He lead the mental health response to an aviation incident drill at Laguardia Airport on Oct. 4. He also provided the mental health orientation/ briefing to the mayor's staff and others at City Hall prior to the 9/11 commemoration. William B. Rhoads (Art History) gave a lecture Oct. 4, "Myron Teller's Colonial Revival Architecture and Hardware," at a symposium held in connection with an exhibition of the products of Val-Kill Industries at the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site in Hyde Park. Larry McGlinn (Geography) contributed to "The Feasibility of a New York State Energy Conservation/Global Warming Consortium" on Sept. 19 at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. |
