
Awards, Honors, Appointments and RecognitionA.J. Williams-Myers (Black Studies) is the recipient of the Alumni in the NewsSteve Finkle ’75 (Geography), director of Kingston's Economic Development Agency, has won the 2006 Developer of the Year Award from the New York State Economic Development Council. In his 30-year career, Finkle has played a prominent role in the introduction of commercial air service at Newburgh's Stewart Airport, as well as the revitalization of the City of Kingston, including the development of the New York State Empire Zone and Hudson River waterfront revitalization. Finkle has also served as a mentor to young college graduates, including those in the college’s Geography Internship Program. Students in the NewsThe college’s Management Association has been awarded the national Superior Merit Award by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Winning a Superior Merit Award places New Paltz chapter in the top 24 percent of all student chapters nationwide, and it was awarded to only 18 collegiate chapters in the Northeast region. It is presented to chapters with a notable year of providing development opportunities for students. Kristin Backhaus (Business) is the chapter advisor. The 2005-2006 student executive board members were Clara Castillo ’06 (Marketing), Cynthia Mafla ’06 (Marketing), Danielle Glendenning ’06 (Management), Eranuvia Castillo’06 (Marketing), Jeff Katz ’06 (Management), Ka Ling Liu ’07 (Management/Finance), Scott Perlin ’06 (Management), and Jo Tan ’07 (Management/Finance). For the fourth consecutive year, the Management Association has attained national recognition as a SHRM Superior Merit Award chapter.
