Old Main tenants on the move

With interior renovations of the Old Main Building scheduled to begin later this summer, occupants are busy packing up and moving into new locations across campus.

The department of Secondary Education moved out of Old Main and into their new location in the Secondary Education Building, the green building behind the South Classroom Building, on May 21. Devon Duhaney, chair of Secondary Education, felt the move went smoothly.

"Everybody has expressed satisfaction with the place so far," Duhaney said. "The building we're in was renovated to facilitate our placement here. It's pretty comfortable."

Also among the relocated departments is the Literacy Center, formerly housed in the basement of Old Main and now in the van den Berg Annex. The coordinator of literacy graduate programs, Margaret Owuor, felt that the move went well. "I didn't lose anything or break anything," Owuor said, crediting the help the movers gave, and the benefits of knowing about the move far in advance. Owuor says she is happy to be in the van den Berg Annex, a newer building.

Not all departments are moving to temporary locations. On June 6, some members of Computer Services moved out of the South Classroom Building and returned to its original and renovated office in the Haggerty Administration Building (HAB) basement. The move frees up space in the South Classroom Building for other departments scheduled to leave Old Main in the coming weeks, including the School of Education's Dean's Office.
