Ron Knapp (Geography, Emeritus) received a Gold Book of the Year award in the architecture category for his book, “Chinese Houses: The Architectural Heritage of a Nation,” with photographs by A. Chester Ong.
Daniel Sistarenik (Director, Financial Aid) was awarded the William A. Troy Service Awards at the 25th Anniversary Conference of the State University of New York Financial Aid Professionals (SUNYFAP) in April. The School of Education received an Award of Appreciation from the Mid-Hudson Teacher Center (MHTC). Robert Michael (Dean, School of Education) accepted the award on behalf of the School of Education at the MHTC’s 20th anniversary celebration in May. The award recognizes the School of Education for its commitment, support and contributions to the vision of the organization. Michael returned the favor, presenting the MHTC with a plaque of appreciation honoring the ongoing collaboration with the college.
Baback Izadi (Electrical and Computer Engineering) was a panelist in a session titled, "Future Vision: Forecasts for Automated Management," at the Fourth Proactive Problem Prediction, Avoidance and Diagnosis Conference, in April at the IBM Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights.
Howard Good (Communication and Media) has published a poem, "On Being Asked, 'Have You Written Anything Yet About Your Mother's Death?'" in the summer 2006 issue of The Rose and Thorn, available online at www.theroseandthornezine.com.
Andrea Noel (Elementary Education) published a chapter titled, "Adding Excitement and Relevance to Elementary Social Studies Instruction with the Use of Primary Documents," in the book, “International Perspectives on Education and Training,” which was edited by John Kelvyn Richards and published by the Athens Institute for Education in Athens, Greece.
Thyssene E. Frederick '89 (Communication) has been appointed director of admission at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, N.C. Frederick, who started her admissions career at New Paltz as a student ambassador, was previously the associate director of admissions at Coastal Carolina University and assistant director of admissions at Virginia Tech.
Lisa M. (Poponiak) Angeloni '93g (Educational Administration) is dean of admissions at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) Angeloni was an undergraduate admissions advisor and interim associate director of admissions at New Paltz.
Heather Mangione '07 ( ) has been awarded a $3,000 undergraduate scholarship from the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. The scholarship is to be used for full-time study during the 2006-2007 school year.
