van den Berg Hall to celebrate reopening with May 16 reception
The School of Business and Nursing Department invite members of the campus community to the grand opening ceremony for their newly renovated home in van den Berg Hall at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16.
The event will take place at the main entrance on Tricor Avenue, and will include a ribbon cutting to commemorate the reopening of the building. There will also be an unveiling of a plaque to honor Ulster Savings Charitable Foundation, which donated $100,000 to the college to help renovate the exterior and maintain the historic building’s entrance.
Hadi Salavitabar (Dean, School of Business) said he has been working toward this day for more than 10 years, and having the departments in the new building is a critical step toward enhancing the program.
"I have a lot of plans for this building," said Salavitabar. "We want to make this place the business hub for the business community."
Originally built in 1930 as the Campus Practice School, the building is named after Lawrence H. van den Berg, the last principal of the New Paltz Normal School and the first president of the State Teacher's College at New Paltz (1923-1943).
At the end of the ceremony, members of the School of Business will be offering tours of the refurbished classrooms and office spaces.
