Italian Studies program to discuss renowned writer’s work

The Luigi and Anita Traverso Italian Studies Endowment at New Paltz presents “Manzoni’s Fallen Woman: The Actual Nun of Monza and I Promessi Sposi,” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, in the Coykendall Science Building Auditorium. The presentation, given by Anthony Cinquemani (English, Emeritus), will look at the publication of the “Vita e Processo di Suor Virginia Maria de Leyva, Monaca di Monza,” which reveals, more amply than Manzoni’s famous novel, the sordid circumstances of the adultery and involvement in crime of the Signora.

Performers needed for May 12 faculty/staff talent showcase

Registration for the All Faculty/Staff Showcase of Talent is open. The talent show is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, May 12. All are welcome to participate, except for professional performers in the music and theatre arts departments. Interested performers must register to participate. A registration form is available at www.newpaltz.edu/governance/talentshow.html. Campus departments, offices, areas and organizations may sponsor an act. The sponsor will have their name appear in the show’s program, be spotlighted during the show, and receive a certificate. Proceeds will benefit to the General Scholarship Fund.

New Paltz student marketing group receives national acclaim

In March 2006, the SUNY New Paltz Student Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) of the School of Business received three awards at the 27th American Marketing Association’s Annual International Collegiate Conference, which took place in Orlando, FL. and was comprised of 1120 students and 72 faculty advisors from chapters across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Of the 380 AMA International Chapters, 118 were qualified to compete for awards for the best Strategic Plan and Report. Representing the SUNY New Paltz chapter were faculty advisor, Ted Clark (Business), AMA President Karl von Ahm '06, Gina Marotta '07, Vice President of Membership, Jenna Waite '06, Co-VP of Fundraising, Taty Varshavsky '06, Co-VP of Fundraising and John Kidd, '06, VP of Programs. The student chapter received the awards for Outstanding Chapter, given for excellence in strategic planning, membership activities and community service.
