Awards program to praise classified staff

The dedicated service of the campus’s classified staff will be rewarded at this year’s faculty/staff barbecue in May when the first recipients of the Classified Staff Presidential Award Program are announced.

President Steven Poskanzer and the Human Resources Department recently announced the new program to recognize the exemplary
service classified staff employees have given to the college.

The awards will consist of a Certificate of Appreciation, a gift basket with New Paltz logo items, and a $500 gift certificate.

Nominations for 2007 can be submitted to Human Resources through April 20.

“We would like everyone to take the time to consider and recommend a classified staff employee for this award,” said Cathy Beard, assistant vice president for Human Resources.

Exemplary service may be in the form of: exceptional service in meeting student needs; submission and/or implementation of an innovative idea that saves resources or generates new dollars;
excellence in overall service, supported by specific examples; or
an exceptional act of volunteerism for the campus.

Employees may be nominated by a supervisor, another employee, a
student or other member of the campus community. Nomination forms are available in the Human Resources office (Haggerty Administration
Building Room 203), or at the Human Resources.

All campus employees represented by Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), Public Employees Federation (PEF) and Agency
Law Enforcement Services (ALES) are eligible for this award, along with Research Foundation classified equivalent employees. Campus Auxiliary
Services (CAS)-CSEA members and Research Foundation student employees are not eligible. The number of awards will depend on the number selected by the committee for that year.

“Given the talent and professionalism of our classified staff, we expect to receive many qualified nominations and expect our committee to have a tough job selecting the winners,” said Poskanzer.

The Award Program Committee consists of representatives from each bargaining unit: there will be two CSEA representatives, one from PEF, one from ALES, as well as one representative from Human Resources. The committee will recommend award recipients to the college president, who will confirm the selection.

Beard consulted with officials from each bargaining unit, other campus human resources departments and members of her own staff to develop the criteria for the award program.

Questions regarding the program or the nomination process can be directed to Pat LoSecco, the Human Resources committee member,
