Political Science professor emeritus Ronald Steinberg dies
1941-2006
Ronald Steinberg (Political Science Emeritus) died Feb. 15, 2006 in Nyack. He was 65.
Steinberg joined the Political Science
faculty at New Paltz in 1967. During his
tenure, he taught courses in judicial
process and created a 15-credit course
titled, “Law, the Legal Profession and
Social Justice.” As head of the department,
he taught generations of aspiring
lawyers, many of who regarded him as a
mentor. Colleagues remember him as a
compassionate and humane person in his
relationships with others.
Throughout his 30 years at New Paltz,
he was active in faculty governence,
serving as presiding officer of the faculty
and professional staff. He received a
number of summer fellowships from the
National Endowment for the Humanities
and was also a member of the American
Judicature Society and the Supreme
Court Historical Society. Steinberg
retired from New Paltz in 1997.
