Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the State University of New York Risa Palm visited New Paltz on Dec. 21.
Palm, who was appointed in Oct. 2006, provides academic leadership, establishes priorities and works to further SUNY's commitment to access, public service and the advancement of research.
The provost's visit to campus was part of her tour of colleges and universities throughout the statewide system.
The School of Business received a $10,000 pledge from Dan Devine, recently retired president of Rondout Savings Bank in Kingston, and his wife, Dianne Devine, president of Benedictine Hospital, also in Kingston.
Hadi Salavitabar, dean, said the generous donation would provide the school with resources to offer educational activities to students that would have not been possible otherwise.
"Dan and Dianne Devine are outstanding community leaders who deeply care about the education of our students and well being of the region," said Salavitabar.
Dan Devine is currently a member of the School of Business Advisory Council and its Outreach Committee. He is also a mentor to one of the department's Business Plan Contest teams and has volunteered to serve as the School of Business Community Relations Liaison.
The School of Business will dedicate one study area in van den Berg Hall to the Devines in recognition of their gift.
