SUNY New Paltz Golf Tournament to raise money for students affected by Super Storm Sandy
NEW PALTZ -The State University of New York at New Paltz will hold the Doug Sheppard Classic Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday, June 17, 2013, at the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, N.Y.
This year’s event features an “Early Bird Sponsorship Recognition Opportunity.” Register online by Wednesday, May 1, and get two tee signs for the price of one. Additional team and non-team sponsorships for the tournament are also available. Proceeds from the event will benefit SUNY New Paltz students who were affected by Super Storm Sandy and who need financial aid assistance to continue their studies at New Paltz.
The $200 entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, complete with golf cart; breakfast; on-course refreshments; awards, contests, and prizes; cocktail party with open bar; banquet dinner and awards ceremony; and event logo gear. Each player is eligible for awards and prizes that will be presented during the banquet dinner, which takes place at 3 p.m. in the Wiltwyck Golf Club ballroom. The dinner will also feature a raffle and silent auction. The banquet is open also to non-golfers for $50. Golfers may register as individuals or in teams of up to four players.
Event registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. tee-off time.
Celebrating its 15th year, the tournament is named in memory of Doug Sheppard, the long-time SUNY New Paltz professor, administrator, and coach. “Shep” was not only the golf coach for 32 years, but he was also a participant and fixture at local courses and tournaments in the area.
The event will be held rain or shine and is sponsored by Campus Auxiliary Services, Sodexo, NEEBO, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Standard Commercial Interiors, Wilmorite, and M&T Bank.
Last year’s tournament welcomed more than 100 players and raised $36,000 for a scholarship endowment for New Paltz students from Dutchess, Ulster and Orange counties. To register for the two-for-one tee sign, team or non-team membership, foursomes, or individual players, please call 845-257-3240 or visit http://www.newpaltz.edu/golf.
