Remembrance and Reflection: Sept. 11, 2001

09/02/2004

NEW PALTZ -- The State University of New York at New Paltz will hold an hour-long remembrance ceremony beginning at 9:30 p.m., Sept. 11, on the Student Union Building (SUB) concourse to reflect upon the lives lost in the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The agenda for the ceremony includes opening remarks by both Steven G. Poskanzer, president of New Paltz, and Jennifer Fox, student activities manager. In addition, Voices of Unity Gospel Choir will perform a selection of music.

Victoria Passarella, president of the Student Association; David Humins, assistant program coordinator for the Office of Student Activities and Union Services; Paul Walley, campus pastor; and a representative of the Center for Peace and Social Justice will all speak.

The SUNY New Paltz community will also offer a night of reflection with a Candlelight Vigil beginning at 9:40 p.m. on the SUB concourse. There will be a march around the campus that will end around the campus pond — with the candlelight reflecting off the water.

The events are sponsored by the Center for Peace and Social Justice and are open to the public. For more information, contact the Office of Student Activities and Union Services at (845) 257-3025.
