New Paltz names director of alumni relations

01/02/2013

NEW PALTZ -The State University of New York at New Paltz is pleased to announce the appointment of Brenda Dow as the College’s new director of alumni relations, effective December 21.

Dow served as the director of development services in New Paltz’s Office of Development from February to present. She will continue to provide leadership in Development Services while a search for her replacement as director is undertaken.

“My first year at SUNY New Paltz has been a wonderful experience,” Dow said. “In this new role, I look forward to meeting more alumni, hearing about their New Paltz experiences, and building stronger connections that are meaningful to them and supportive of our mission.”

Dow served for nearly seven years as the head of alumni affairs at the SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica/Rome. In that role, she led all alumni affairs activities, including events, the alumni association, alumni board activities, and alumni communications. She also had interim responsibilities for fund raising initiatives, was responsible for database management and reviewed and revised gift-processing and gift-acknowledgement practices while handling alumni communication responsibilities.

Previously, Dow served as director of public relations and webmaster at Utica College and in other marketing communication positions in higher education. She also held related positions in the private sector.

“Brenda brings to her work a desire for excellence, creative thinking, an ethic of hard work, determination, and good humor,” said David Ferguson, interim executive director for development/foundation at New Paltz. “She has a rich and varied background that will serve us well as we build stronger relations with and among our alumni.”

Dow earned a bachelor of science degree from Cornell University in communication arts and a master of science degree in human resources management from Chapman University.
