SUNY New Paltz introduces Winter Session

NEW PALTZ - The State University of New York at New Paltz will soon offer its first-ever Winter Session, giving students the chance to get ahead or catch up by taking one of three online courses in January.
The SUNY New Paltz Winter Session will be held from Jan. 2 to Jan. 21, 2013, presenting an attractive option for students who would like to earn three credits in three weeks between the fall and spring semesters. Registration for the Winter Session begins on Dec. 3.
The three courses being offered during Winter Session are “Art of the Western World II” taught by Kerry Carso; “Survey of Communication Disorders” with Stella Turk; and “Media and Society” taught by Jerry Persaud. All three courses are each worth three credits, and two of the courses satisfy several general education requirements.
“Art of the Western World II” examines the history of Western art from the Renaissance through the 20th century, as students learn ways to generally analyze art as well as specific attributes of artistic styles and movements. This course fulfills the General Education 3 (GEIII) requirements for art, effective expression/aesthetic, and liberal arts.
“Survey of Communication Disorders” explores the various professions within speech-language pathology and audiology, and is geared toward those who are looking to explore career options in this field, as well as those who are considering majoring in communication disorders. Students will learn to distinguish terminologies and concepts in communication disorders, life span issues, and identifying the broad scope of this practice in different clinical settings.
“Media and Society” introduces students to the “history, content, economics, regulation and effects” of mass media in the United States, including books, magazines, the Internet, newspapers, radio, film, audio, and television programming. “Media and Society” can help students satisfy their liberal arts, systematic inquiry or social science (SSCI) GEIII requirements.
