04/19/2012
NEW PALTZ – The State University of New York at New Paltz will hold the Doug Sheppard Classic Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday, June 11, at Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston. This year’s event features an “Early Bird Sponsorship Recognition Opportunity.” Register online by Monday, April 30th and get two tee signs for the price of one. Additional team and non-team sponsorships for the tournament are also available. Proceeds from the event will go toward a scholarship endowment for New Paltz students from Dutchess, Ulster, Orange and Sullivan counties.
The $200 entry fee includes 18 holes of golf with cart, breakfast, on-course refreshments, beverage carts, tournament logo gear and awards banquet dinner. Each player is eligible for awards, contests and prizes that will be presented at a banquet dinner at 3 p.m. in the Wiltwyck Golf Club Ballroom. The dinner also features a raffle and silent auction. The banquet is open to non-golfers as well for $50. Golfers can register as individuals or in teams of up to four players.
Event registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. and the shotgun start of the four-person, scramble format takes place at 9 a.m.
In its 14th year, the tournament is named in memory of Doug Sheppard, the longtime professor, administrator and coach. “Shep” was not only the golf coach for 32 years, but was also a golfer who was a fixture at local courses and tournaments in the area.
The event will be held rain or shine and is sponsored by Campus Auxiliary Services, Sodexo, NEEBO, IBEW Local 36, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Wilmorite and ZGF.
Last year’s tournament welcomed 105 players and raised $30,000 for the endowment.
