NEW PALTZ – The SUNY New Paltz College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
(LA & S) has created a new scholarship program to support low-paying or unpaid summer internships for its students. This new program will offer two, $1,000 awards. An applicant will be selected based on her or his GPA, the quality of the internship, and the relevance of the internship to the student’s academic major and educational goals and future career.
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have declared a major in a department or program within the College of LA & S and maintain a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to students in their junior year. Seniors, graduating in May or August, are not eligible for this award. Internships offered by a business or organization run by a family member, relative, or close family friend do not qualify for this scholarship program.
To apply for the College of LA & S’ summer internship scholarships, each student should submit the following: a 300-500-word description of the internship and its relation to the student’s academic major, educational goals, and career plans; a resume; an academic transcript with cumulative GPA; and two letters of recommendation from faculty.
Applications should be sent to James Schiffer, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, SUNY New Paltz, Jacobsen Faculty Tower, Room 614, 600 Hawk Drive, New Paltz, NY 12561-2440. Application deadline is May 1. Award recipients will be announced on May 15. For more information about the summer internship scholarship program, contact the Dean’s Office at schiffe@newpaltz.edu or (845) 257-3520.
The summer internship scholarship program is supported by contributions from the SUNY New Paltz College of LA & S’ Dean’s Fund.
