Author Paul Loeb to lecture at SUNY New Paltz

NEW PALTZ – The State University of New York at New Paltz will host a free lecture titled “Soul of a Citizen: Living with Conviction in Challenging Times” with author Paul Loeb at 7 p.m. on March 27 in Lecture Center room 102.
Drawing on 35 years of exploring citizen involvement, Loeb will talk about how people get involved in community issues and what stops them from getting involved; how they burn out in exhaustion or maintain their commitment for the long haul; how involvement can give them a powerful sense of connection and purpose.

Loeb has spent thirty years researching and writing about citizen responsibility and empowerment. His work has received coverage and critical acclaim from many journals and newspapers. He has lectured at over 400 colleges and universities and been a featured speaker at numerous national conferences.
Loeb is best known for his book Soul of a Citizen: Living With Conviction in Challenging Times (St Martin's Press, 2010). His book on political hope, The Impossible Will Take a Little While (Basic Books), was named the #3 political book of 2004 by the History Channel and the American Book Association, won the Nautilus Award for best social change book of the year (as did the updated edition of Soul), and is now in its eighteenth printing.
