New Paltz launches interactive town and village map

NEW PALTZ - In 2009 the Town of New Paltz Historic Preservation Commission applied for and received a grant from the New York State Historic Preservation Office to develop an online interactive map that displays information collected from prior surveys about the properties of historic significance in the Town and Village of New Paltz.
The project was managed by Joshua Simons at the Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach at SUNY New Paltz and completed by students at SUNY New Paltz and assistance from the Elting Memorial Library.
The on-line interactive map will be available Wed., Feb.16th for history enthusiasts, educators, students, and local home owners to explore the collection of historic facts, pictures, and stories about these wonderful properties that comprise the history of New Paltz.
A presentation and demonstration open to the public will take place at the Town of New Paltz Community Center on Wed., Feb., 16 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Stop by to learn about this exciting project and see the application in action. In the event of severe weather (requiring New Paltz schools to close), the presentation will take place the following Wed., Feb. 23.

Realtors and tourism agencies who share this information will convey the spirit of New Paltz through its deep commitment to history. Individuals who are researching their ancestry will find the database easy to understand, and filled with useful and time-saving details," stated David Cavallaro, Marbletown Historic Preservation Commission.
