SUNY New Paltz Campus TV Station and Student Grab National Award

NEW PALTZ -- Kleber Delgado, a SUNY New Paltz senior, is one of only five college students selected nationwide to receive the Scripps Howard Most Valuable Staffer Award. This recognition includes a $10,000 monetary contribution to be split equally between the student and the SUNY New Paltz TV Station, WNPC-TV.
For the past year, Delgado has been the general manager of WNPC-TV. Currently, he is the Web designer for the station.
The Scripps Howard Most Valuable Staffer Award is committed to encouraging and promoting student broadcasters planning to pursue related careers after graduating. Delgado is a radio/television production major at SUNY New Paltz who qualified based on his work at WNPC-TV.
Delgado will receive the award at a special luncheon during the College Media Advisers Annual Meeting, to be held Oct. 25-28 in New Orleans. Delgado will be provided with round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and registration for the conference.
"Kleber's greatest attribute is enthusiasm and willingness to learn. His ceaseless quest for knowledge in this field has made him very valuable to this station," said Greg Gulbrandsen, the director of the Campus Media Center at SUNY New Paltz.
Delgado is from Ecuador, South America. He came to the United States when he was seven. Currently he is living in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. He is considering work at a Spanish-speaking television or cable network station after he graduates from SUNY New Paltz in May.
"Receiving this scholarship is one of the greatest accomplishments in my life so far. I am really happy and excited to have been recognized for all the work and contributions that I have made to the campus television station this past three years," said Delgado.
