SUNY New Paltz Service Organization Seeks New Members

10/05/2001

NEW PALTZ -- Faculty Wives and Women is a service organization whose roots go back to 1946 when William Haggerty was president of SUNY New Paltz. Originally, the organization was comprised of the wives of male faculty members, but has recently grown to include female faculty as well.

The main activity of Faculty Wives and Women is to raise funds for a scholarship given to a New Paltz High School graduate to attend SUNY New Paltz. The scholarship committee of the high school selects a student with exceptional grades, plans to attend SUNY New Paltz, and some commitment to community service.

Twice a year, the women and wives gather for a luncheon, and there are several special interest groups that meet throughout the year. The next luncheon will be Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Apple Green Cafe in Clintondale. The luncheon cost is $13, and reservations are required. Annual dues for the organization are $10. For more information, please call members Joyce Schiff at 255-7143 or Dolly Wodin at 255-6877.

Faculty Wives and Women welcomes new members, and growth would enable the organization to set new goals and to serve many others within the SUNY New Paltz community. The group is eager for the revitalization which new members would bring and for additional social and outreach opportunities.
