Statement from President Steven G. Poskanzer

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death of a very dear friend to this college. Mildred Resnick, 90, who with her husband Louis, was a longtime benefactor of New Paltz and many other institutions in the region, passed away overnight.

Mildred Resnick was one of the most remarkable women I've ever known—strong, smart, and singularly committed to the health of this region. Together with Lou, they formed a team whose beneficent influence shaped almost every significant educational, health and cultural institution in Ellenville, Ulster County and the greater Hudson Valley.

On our campus, we owe to Mildred and her family the very existence of our Resnick Engineering Program, the Resnick Engineering Building, and the Resnick Institute for the Study of Modern Jewish Life. But of course Mildred and Lou's most enduring legacy here is the education provided to hundreds of students who have and are attending New Paltz on Resnick scholarships.

My heart aches for the Resnick family and indeed for all of the Hudson Valley. I've lost a cherished friend—a sentiment that I know is shared by our whole community.
