Undergraduate Curriculum

The Department of Music is a part of the School of Fine & Performing Arts and offers a large variety of liberal arts and professional courses to prospective students. We are fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

The department offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Music with concentrations in Classical Performance, Jazz Performance, and Recording and Electronic Music. We also offer a B.A./B. S. liberal-arts degree in Music with a core curriculum of basic musicianship, a program of general music electives and a capstone sequence in which students complete a Senior Project that draws on and synthesizes their previous coursework. In keeping with the liberal-arts philosophy of the program, music students also complete a minor or second major in a subject other than music.

Music students interested in Music Therapy may choose electives related to this area. Please follow this link for information on these courses.

Most courses are open to non-majors as well as majors, with the notable exception of Applied Music and some specialized courses. Students who sing or play an instrument can earn one credit per semester for participation in any of our performing ensembles: College/Youth Symphony, College-Community Chorale, Symphonic Band, Concert Choir, Collegium Musicum, Chamber Singers and Chamber Jazz ensembles.
