SUNY New Paltz

Creating a museum takes more than bricks and mortar. The strength of every museum rests upon the quality of its collections, its programs, and the support of its audiences. One of our priorities is to further develop and strengthen our permanent collection. Toward this end we ask you to become a partner and a donor to the SDMA. Listed below are areas of the collection that we wishto expand. With your support the SDMA will become a major repository for works of art that define the artistic and cultural heritage of the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountain regions.

  • HUDSON RIVER SCHOOL, PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS, AND PRINTS
  • AMERICAN IMPRESSIONIST, PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS, AND PRINTS
  • ARTS AND CRAFTS FROM THE BYRDCLIFFE ART COLONY
  • WOODSTOCK ART COLONY, PAINTINGS, PRINTS, AND SCULPTURE
  • HISTORIC PAINTINGS, PRINTS, AND DRAWINGS BY ARTISTS FROM NEW PALTZ AND THE SHAWANGUNK MOUNTAIN REGION
  • 19TH AND 20TH CENTURY PHOTOGRAPHS
  • AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN DECORATIVE ARTS GOLD AND SILVER, JEWELRY AND HOLLOWARE
  • WORKS BY CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS LIVING IN THE HUDSON VALLEY AND CATSKILL MOUNTAIN REGIONS
  • PRE-COLOMBIAN AND ASIAN CERAMICS

Please contact us via e-mail if you have museum quality artwork that you wish to donate to the museum.

PLANNING YOUR GIFT TO THE SAMUEL DORSKY MUSEUM OF ART

All gifts to charity involve some degree of planning. Bequest gifts and gifts that provide income to the donor often call for considerably more planning. The Advancement Office of SUNY New Paltz is ready and willing to assist you in developing your gift plan to benefit the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art.

Gift planning empowers you to determine how you wish to disseminate your estate to heirs, friends, and favorite charitable organizations. The SUNY New Paltz Foundation was established to accept private gifts on behalf of the university. Donors who wish to provide for the museum should make their gift to the SUNY New Paltz Foundation for the benefit of the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art.

Gift planning also provides an occasion to perpetuate the memory of a loved one or to honor a family name within the museum. Recognition opportunities are available starting at $100 and go to $1,000,000 (endowed chair). There are six exclusive opportunities to name gallery spaces in the museum that are very attractively priced. Inquiries regarding donations for acquisitions, conservation and special exhibitions and programs are always welcome and encouraged.

Donors may wish to make a gift to the SUNY New Paltz Foundation to benefit the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art during their lifetime. Many of these opportunities often carry significant tax benefits.

Gifts of cash, securities or appreciated property may be donated to the Foundation, with tax benefits to the donor.

Real estate can be a convenient and beneficial way to make a gift. A donor may wish to make special arrangements to occupy the property throughout his or her lifetime.

Tangible personal property such as art, special collections, or antiques may be donated. The extent of the tax benefit will be based on the gift's related use to the purposes and programs of the institution.

Additional ways to give:

  • Charitable Trusts and Charitable Gift Annuities
  • Gifts by Will
