Eduardo Vera Cortés was born in 1926 in Utuado, Puerto Rico. While still in his early 20s and without formal training he was accepted into the Taller de Gráfica de Parques y Recreo Público in 1949, which the following year became the Taller de Gráfica of the División de Educación de la Comunidad under the leadership of Irene Delano. During his first few years there he studied sculpture at the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, and, for a year, painting and sculpture in Mexico. Nevertheless, he chose to follow the career of a graphic artist at theTaller de Gráfica, specializing in the designing of posters and book illustrations. He is the only graphic artist from theTaller de Gráfica of the División de Educación who worked continuously there from its inception in 1950 to its closing in 1989.
