The Hudson River—A Great American Treasure: Greg Miller

September 19 – November 29, 2009
Alice and Horace Chandler Gallery
Opening Reception: September 19, 4-6 p.m.

Gallery Talk with artist Greg Miller, Thursday, November 12, 7 p.m.

This exhibition presents twenty recent color photographs of Hudson Valley landscapes by Orange County, NY-based photographer Greg Miller. Depicting views of the river and environs from New York City's George Washington Bridge to the river's small upstate tributaries, Greg Miller's views of well-known-and less well-known-vistas capture the complexity of this important tourist destination, venue for trade and industry, and site of this country's first significant conservation efforts.

Many of the photographs in the exhibition-some in panoramic (wide) format; some standard-were recently published in The Hudson River: A Great American Treasure, a book Greg Miller published in association with the non-profit organization Scenic Hudson with a foreword by environmentalist and writer Bill McKibben.

Miller recently exhibited a selection of these photographs at Donskoj Gallery in Kingston, NY; he has photographed for Audubon New York, the Appalachian Mountain Club, Earth River Expeditions, and Hudson Valley magazine. He teaches advanced photography at the Center for Photography, Woodstock, and will be artist-in-residence at Acadia National Park this fall. Miller's Panorama of the Hudson, 80-foot-long photographs of each bank of the Hudson River from New York City to Albany (commissioned by the Dorsky Museum), is currently on view in the museum's Sara Bedrick Gallery.
