INTEGRATION BEE !

Can you integrate 1/sqrt{4+x^2} ? Nick France (SUNY New Paltz) did to win the Fall 2012 Integration Bee, hosted by the SIAM and AWM Student Chapters of SUNY New Paltz, and sponsored by the Student Association. Nick persevered through individual, head-to-head, and lightning rounds to claim the title of Integration Bee Champion and an Amazon Kindle. Joining Nick in the final head-to-head competition was Runner-up Alex Goodlad (Bard College).
The event drew 20 participants from SUNY New Paltz, Bard College, and Mount Saint Mary College, as well as a lively and supportive audience. Judges of the event included faculty from the Department of Mathematics (Drs. Barghi, Cartwright, Dominici, Ravishankar, Schwarz, Shemyakova) and the Department of Physics (Drs. Halpern and Nunes).
Thank you to all participants, spectators, judges, and the presiding officers of the SIAM and AWM Student Chapters at SUNY New Paltz, who all made this a successful event!
