PRIMAL ALGEBRAS, EVOLUTION AND ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS

Dr. David M. Clark

SUNY New Paltz

Evolutionary computation (EC) attempts to find solutions to difficult problems through an organic process that simulates biological evolution.  Each year the Association for Computing Machinery holds their annual international Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference featuring EC solutions that would have been viewed as “human competitive" had they been discovered by a human. The speaker will present the work of his team which won first place in the 2008 GECCO competition by using EC to find electronic circuit designs in search spaces of otherwise intractably large size.

This talk is intended for faculty, students and anyone else who enjoys hearing about new advances in mathematics, science and engineering.
