Shango Hall is a residence hall within the Parker complex. The Parker complex is composed of the traditional corridor style hallways with a single sex bathroom shared by all residents of the floor or house which is maintained by the custodial staff. Students who live in the corridor style buildings enjoy a lot of activity and interaction with the members of their house. Students may personalize their environment by painting the corridors with a house theme mural. Lounges can be found in the basement level. Shango Hall is the oldest residence hall on campus and its unique construction and traditions house a diverse student population. Located in the basement of Shango Hall is a study lounge with 10 computers, two T.V. lounges, and a kitchen. Located on the first and second floors are small laundry rooms equipped with washers and dryers and recycling areas. Vending machines and a microwave oven are also located on the first floor. House names are philosophically based and are used for community development and programming. The smallest residence hall on campus, Shango offers a very close community and proximity to the academic buildings. The small, diverse population of the hall offers opportunity for growth and experiences through in-hall programming and development. Shango Hall is five minutes away from Main Street New Paltz and is the closest hall to the village. History: The Shango Hall Complex was the first residence hall/dining hall/ student union complex at the college. Today, the northern wing is called Shango Hall and still serves as a residence hall for students. ![]() |
