EXIT INTERVIEW PART 1

1. Understanding Loan Repayment

Your Stafford Loan was made to you directly from one of many lenders. If you don't remember who your lender is, contact New York State Higher Education Services Corporation at their web site: www.hesc.com and go to the section for students and parents.

Though HESC is a resource that is there to help, you are responsible for repaying your loan and managing your payment schedule. As a borrower who has graduated or no longer attends school at least half-time, you will face many decisions including decisions about managing repayment of your student loans.

The HESC web site will provide you with information to help you:

  • Choose a repayment plan that is best for you
  • Make repaying loans as simple as possible
  • Provide you with information you need about your Rights and Responsibilities as a borrower

In order to complete the exit counseling requirement, you must:

  • Complete each of the sections included in this web site
  • Read, sign, and mail the Rights and Responsibilities Checklist/Borrower Information Sheet to the Office of the Student Loan Coordinator

To move on to the next section, answer the following question correctly.

TRUE OR FALSE

To complete the Exit Counseling Requirement, which is required of all borrowers, I must read and understand all the sections contained on this web site, and print, complete, and sign a copy of the Rights and Responsibilities Checklist/Borrower Information Sheet and mail it to the Office of the Student Loan Coordinator.
