Travel Outside The US While On OPT Or STEM Extension

What do I need to re-enter if I travel outside the US while on OPT / STEM Extension?

  • Valid passport
  • Valid F-1 visa
  • OPT or OPT STEM extension I-20 signed within the past 6 months
  • OPT or OPT STEM extension EAD card
  • Letter from employer verifying your employment on return to the US
What should I send to the International Student Office to get a travel signature?
If there is enough time, mail the following to us:
  • Original OPT or STEM EXTENSION I-20
  • Copy of passport information page
  • Copy of visa and both sides of I-94 card
  • Copy of OPT or STEM extension EAD card
  • Current address where you are living and your telephone and email address
  • Current employer information (company name and mailing address)
  • Pre-paid UPS airbill listing International Programs as the sender and you as the recipient
  • Dates of travel (no itinerary required)
If there is not enough time to mail us the documents, email the following to us:
