Classroom A/V equipment

Lower the electric screen by holding down the screen control switch. This is located on the wall near the instructor’s station, to the right of the screen.

Most equipment in this classroom is controlled through the Extron control unit, located on the desktop of the instructor’s station. The button marked DISPLAY POWER will turn on the LCD projector, mounted on the ceiling. Press and hold this button for about three seconds. The LCD projector should turn on after a few seconds. You should hear the fan turn on first. Gradually, the screen will grow brighter as the projector warms up.

For computer use, choose PC on the Extron control unit. Turn on power to the computer. At the Novell sign in, follow Academic Computing’s instructions and enter your New Paltz Computer User ID and password. Be sure to log out when you are finished.

For VCR/DVD use, choose VCR or DVD on the Extron control unit. Turn on power to the VCR/DVD player. Insert the tape or disc. Use the controls on the deck or on the grey remote control to start and stop the videotape or disc.

For Document Camera use, choose Document Camera on the Extron control unit. Turn on power on the document camera. The red light indicates off, the green light indicates on. Press the button on the document camera labeled LAMP. Press several times, cycling through upper lamp, lower lamp or lamp off settings. Upper lamp is used for any opaque object or paper such as a textbook, your notes or outline, photos, or three-dimensional objects. Lower lamp is used for overhead transparencies or slides. Adjust the zoom and focus buttons as needed.

If you need to connect a laptop, or other auxiliary equipment, contact IMS for help.

Volume control for sound is located on the Extron Control Unit.

At the end of class, turn off the equipment you used. Press the DISPLAY POWER button on the Extron Control Unit to turn off the LCD projector.
(The fan will run for a few minutes after you turn off the projector. It may not be possible to turn the projector on again until the bulb is completely cooled and the fan turns itself off.)

Please note that this room sometimes experiences problems with the Extron control box. If the Display button was pushed too many times too quickly, the unit does not know whether to turn the projector on or off, and it freezes.

Upon entering the classroom, if you find the LCD projector off and the Display light on, please follow these instructions:

  1. Press the Display button until the indicator light starts to blink.
  2. Do not touch any buttons on the Extron box until the blinking light goes off. This blinking may take several minutes. Be patient and wait until it goes off.
  3. After the light goes off, press the Display button again. The light will go on and warm up, reaching maximum brightness in a minute or so.
The reset is complete. The Extron box should function normally now. Please call IMS if you need assistance with this procedure.
