SUMMER 2012
Young Writers' Summer Institutes

This July HVWP will offer two programs to support adolescent writers, one for high school students at SUNY New Paltz and one for middle school students at the Poughkeepsie Day School.

In these unique enrichment programs, students will join a supportive community to explore their interests, develop their voices as writers, and deepen their literacy through the craft of writing.  HVWP's master teachers will provide students with ideas and creative inspiration, structured writing workshop time, individual instruction, and opportunities for sharing their work.  Students will engage in the entire writing process—pre-writing, drafting, peer response, revision, editing—and publish their work in a culminating celebration.

YOUNG WRITERS' SUMMER INSTITUTE
at SUNY New Paltz
In this four-day program, high-school students will have the opportunity to write about what is important to them. Through memoir, writers will tell the stories that have made them laugh, learn, and reflect on what they know and believe.  Students' summer writing will provide a solid foundation for college application essays and scholarship applications.

July 23-26 / 9:00 am - 3:00 pm / Old Main Building, SUNY New Paltz

YOUNG WRITERS' SUMMER INSTITUTE
at the POUGHKEEPSIE DAY SCHOOL
During this one-week workshop, middle-school students will learn how to write and tell their stories digitally using images, music, narrative and voice. Writers will be involved in a lively and creative group where they will write daily and have opportunities to share their work with peers, learning together how to use new digital writing tools.

July 16-20 / 9:00 am - 4:00 pm / Kenyon House, Poughkeepsie Day School
