Hudson Valley Writing Project

Saturday Writing Workshops

Saturday, February 24, 2018

8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

SUNY New Paltz

Experienced teachers will provide creative inspiration for writing and encourage sharing in relaxed, supportive settings. Young writers will enjoy two workshops, while adults will profit from a single longer session.

For writers ages 7-10:

THE POWER OF PERSPECTIVE
How do I create a character from a distant country? How about a distant world? Together we will learn new ways to create authentic fictional characters.

CELEBRATING A LOST ART
We will practice the art of letter writing, a wonderful, creative way to express feelings, tell a story, or just connect with others through writing.

For writers ages 11-17:

WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF . . . ?
In this workshop, we will think about how our lives would be different if just one small factor had gone another way and then write about our alternative lives.

THE STORY IS YOURS FOR THE MAKING!
Together we will create a narrative filled with twists and turns using a Myriorama, a picture made up of a number of separate images that can be combined in numerous ways.

For adult writers:

UNCOVERING THE STORY:
Identifying & Writing a Powerful Personal Story

In this workshop, we will explore personal narrative, uncovering the important stories in our lives and writing with attention to story craft and details.
