Hudson Valley Writing Project

Early Childhood Workshops

Join HVWP this summer for a three-day workshop for early childhood teachers working with children ages three to five. In a relaxed setting, we will study children’s work and play, share ideas, engage in professional reading, and write about our teaching practice, as we explore and celebrate all aspects of emergent literacy.

Presentations on storytelling, drawing and painting, movement, and block building will introduce new ideas and strategies for creating literacy-rich environments for young children. We will discuss the central role of relationships in learning and ways to support parents, caregivers, and families. On Saturday afternoon, we will identify places for experimentation as we plan “next steps” for our own classrooms.

From Summer 2017 participants:

“Inspiring, creative, and useful . . . Everything we covered was relevant to my classroom. I want to go back and share all of these new ideas.”
“Fabulous! It is very rare to attend an inservice that is devoted to preschool early learning. It was wonderful to talk and listen to all the experiences of the teachers and I was able to think about ways to improve my program"
