Duties: The Department of Communication and Media at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of assistant professor, beginning Fall 2013.

We seek a person who can lead, teach and do quality research in our Digital Media Programming and Management program. Desired areas of specialization include current media technologies, and trends and practices within converging media industries throughout the world, with some interest in media entrepreneurship. The candidate should be able to teach effectively both fundamental and advanced digital media management courses at an undergraduate level, and have a commitment to exploring the broader social dimensions of media management in a global context.

The annual teaching load is three courses per semester (twenty credits per year). Courses to be taught include Media and Society, Media Programming and Management, Digital Media and Technology, Media Research Methods, Global Media, and a capstone course entitled Digital Media Convergence, as well as elective courses such as History of American Television or Milestones in Documentary.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. is preferred; exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered. Professional media industry experience is strongly desired. Along with teaching and scholarly research, duties include advising and collegial participation in the life of the Department and the University. Candidates who bring diverse cultural experience and who are especially qualified to mentor and advise all members of our diverse student population are especially encouraged to apply.
