Duties: The Mathematics Department at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning Fall 2013.
The successful candidates will teach a broad range of mathematics courses for majors and non-majors. Faculty are expected to advise students and work with them outside of the classroom, for example, by mentoring undergraduate research, independent studies or the student math club. Faculty also participate in assessment and curriculum development, and engage in other service duties for the department, the school and the college. Faculty are expected to have an active research program yielding ongoing publication in appropriate peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in mathematics prior to the beginning of the contract. (Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered.) Applicants must show significant evidence of research potential and outstanding teaching ability. Current faculty actively publish in applied mathematics, asymptotic analysis, evolutionary computation, inquiry based learning, partial differential equations, probability theory and universal algebra. Candidates who bring diverse cultural experience and who are especially qualified to mentor and advise all members of our diverse student population are especially encouraged to apply.
