Duties: The Department of Theatre Arts, State University of New York at New Paltz seeks designer, and outstanding teacher, for a full-time, tenure-track theatre position, beginning August 2010.

Coursework will include Introduction to Design, Scenic Design I and II, Scene Painting, and History of Period Styles as well as the ability to teach courses in general education curriculum. Other responsibilities include the scenic and property design and painting of two productions annually as well as supervision of student designers and paint crews on all departmental productions.

The faculty member will be expected to establish a strong program of professional design and/or scholarship, to advise students, and to contribute to the life and work of the department and college.

Qualifications: Terminal degree in theatre with an emphasis in scenic design. Expertise in CAD, model building, rendering, and scenic painting. Teaching experience, USA membership, and professional portfolio preferred. Proficient oral/written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others and mentor students is essential. We are especially interested in considering applicants who bring diverse cultural experiences or perspectives to the campus and who can mentor and advise all members of our diverse student body.
