Duties: SUNY New Paltz seeks a dynamic art educator to teach courses in art education, design and supervise curriculum for field placements in schools, advise students, and serve on department and college committees. The faculty member will be expected to establish and maintain a strong program of ongoing, peer-reviewed research and scholarship. Art education faculty members have opportunities to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and for leadership in summer-intensive master’s programs. Potential future leadership opportunities include the Art Education Director position and the Art Department Chair position, which is filled by qualified tenured faculty on a three-year rotation basis.

Qualifications: Doctorate (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) required (exceptional ABD candidates will be considered); P-12 art teaching experience; teaching experience in art education at the college level; evidence of scholarly and professional activities. Research interest in issues of teacher education strongly desired. Knowledge of art education history, philosophy, and contemporary issues; experiences in curriculum design and assessment of student learning; experience with culturally and ethnically diverse populations; interest and literacy in new technologies; demonstrated research skills. Record of ongoing peer-reviewed scholarship required. We are especially interested in considering applicants who bring diverse cultural experiences or perspectives to the campus and who can mentor and advise all members of our diverse student body.
