Contact Information

Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to eliminating poverty housing and homelessness around the world. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and material, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple decent houses with the help of the homeowner families. Habitat houses are sold to partner-families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat houses.

Habitat is not a give-away program. In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor-sweat equity - into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

Habitat has built more than 100,000 around the world, providing more than 500,000 people in more than 2000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Habitat has set a goal of 200,000 houses by the end of 2005.

Our Local Chapter

Our chapter has participated in builds locally in Newburgh, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh, Inc. Collegiate Challenges, alternative spring break building programs for students ages 16 and older, have been spent in Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and South Carolina working alongside homeowners in the construction or rehabilitation of their homes.

In March 2006, 11 of us went to Charleston, South Carolina, to work in Mount Pleasant with East Cooper Habitat for Humanity . We were joined by students from Cornell University.
