New Paltz goes green

Other Campus Green Initiatives

Every day we learn about more and more initiatives underway on campus. We'd like to hear more! Drop us an e-mail at publicaffairs@newpaltz.edu and we'll add your information to this page!

Recycle. Reduce. Reuse. SUNY New Paltz students, faculty, staff and departments do it all!

Design & Printing Services takes old, clean, one-side unprinted paper and re-uses it before it gets recycled by turning it into memo & scratch pads for departments to use in their offices (no recharge to encourage maximum use of resources!).

Facilities Operations installed a recovery heat system in Wooster Science Building (the first of its kind on campus). They're also installing occupancy sensors in various buildings and collecting recycling data. They've purchased two more electric cars and are replacing over 3,000 desk lamp bulbs in residence halls saving $27,000 per/yr. They've also completed a survey of our computer and monitor energy use which could produce over $160,000 of savings every year.

Institutional Research & Planning is piloting an online Student Evaluation of Instruction (SEI) project that will significantly reduce the amount of paper used for this process on campus.

Residence Life is partnering with Planet Aid and Facilities Operations to recycle, reduce and reuse! At the end of the semester Planet Aid donation bins will be at every residence hall on campus for students to donate reusable items such as clothing, shoes, bedding, curtains, towels, and books. Facilities Operations is putting special boxes in each of the halls to get rid of bulbs, batteries, and other electronic-type equipment that need to be recycled in special ways.
