Electric GEM cars
In 2003, the college acquired six Global Electric Motorcars, or GEMs. They were among 130 that were distributed to 26 of the 64 SUNY campuses by Daimler Chrysler through an initiative with the New York Power Authority to cut pollution and save tax dollars.
These cars save the college approximately $3,000 per year in fuel costs and are quiet and pedestrian friendly. In addition, the college is installing a 10kw solar panel system to charge the cars in 2008.
