Students interested in pursuing graphic design at the State University of New York at New Paltz have three degree options: a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Visual Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design, or a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design. Required courses for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Arts include a Foundation sequence devoted to developing drawing, design and critical thinking skills; a Studio sequence of classes in ceramics, metal, painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking and computer aided design; and a sequence of courses in art history. Highly motivated and interested students in the BA and BS programs are invited to apply to the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design. The BFA sequence also requires Foundation and art history courses, and that the student takes the full sequence of graphic design course offerings, including a two-semester Thesis class.
