Steps for Applying: Program Selection and Admission Requirements

Begin your search by reviewing our Programs and Descriptions or viewing the Graduate School Catalog. Both options provide program/department contact information and special admissions requirements for application submission. Additionally, they provide an overview of program requirements upon matriculation. If you would like to speak with a Graduate Admissions Advisor, please contact Caroline Murphy at (845) 257-3285.

Requirements
The basic requirements for admission are a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution and a minimum cumulative undergraduate average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. Any deficiencies in the undergraduate preparation may require that the applicant undertake additional preparatory work, the nature and amount of which shall be determined by the department. For a quick view of admissions requirements to specific programs, refer to Admission Requirements. Requests for additional information may be directed to the Graduate Admissions Advising office by calling (845) 257-3285 or e-mailing gradschool@newpaltz.edu

Deadlines
Many departments have specified deadlines for admission. Some programs only accept students for the Fall semester, while others will accept students for both the Fall and Spring semesters. You may verify program deadlines on the departmental websites, or refer to Deadlines for more information. Only complete applications received on or prior to an admissions deadline will receive an academic review. All applications received past the deadline or missing a required document such as official transcripts will be considered incomplete and will be deferred to the following application cycle.
