  1. Announcements:

    1. Glenn proposed a plan for the committee members to attend a 3- to 4-hour extra meeting to be held on either Wednesday December 10, or Thursday December 11. It was decided by the members to hold the meeting on Wednesday December 10 from 12:40 to? in HUM 120.  He discussed the possibility of accruing the funds from the Provost office to provide Pizza.  He encouraged all the members of the academic affairs committee to attend the meeting.
    2. Glenn noted that the issue of finalizing the calendar (for 2005/2006 year) would be addressed at the extra meeting.

  1. Academic Calendar plan (2005/2006 year)

i)                    S2006H2 (2nd version of Spring 2006 calendar including religious holidays)

a.       Debra stated that the Washington’s Birthday was added to the calendar for mechanical purposes.

b.      Debra noted the corrections on the calendar for Wednesday April 12, 2006 to be an after 3:00 PM holiday and for Friday April 14, 2006 to be just the Good Friday holiday.

c.       Lisa questioned the early occurrence of Spring break and she recommended the break to start one week later.  Her recommendation was made effective on the calendar.

d.      Yoni motioned to support the modified calendar.  The committee approved the new S2006H2 calendar unanimously.

ii)                   F2005NH (Fall 2005 nonreligious-holiday calendar)

a.       Yoav suggested the use a floppy disk and an overhead projector for modifying the calendars when the issue is discussed.

b.      Debra noted the possibility of moving the fall break to an earlier date, October 10, 2005.  She mentioned that by doing so, the academic semester would still start on September 29, 2005 and it would not require any substitution days.

c.       Yoav recommended the early start of the semester, August 25, in order to finish the semester earlier.

d.      Glenn and Debra noted that following Yoav recommendation would require no substation days while it would result in only one day early finish of the fall semester.

e.       Russell suggested keeping the fall break as indicated on the calendar, which would coincide with Yom Kippur.  Debra withdrew her motion as noted in item b.

f.        The calendar was approved in its original form by a majority decision (10 to 1).

4.    The meeting adjourned at 12:25.

Respectfully submitted,

Mohammad Zunoubi
